U’ettes Chelsea Richens performs in the team’s Dance Routine during last week’s State competition at Utah Valley University.

The Uintah High School U’ettes traveled to Orem, Utah, to compete at the 4A State Drill Team competition at Utah Valley University on January 29, placing 8th. Only 15 of the 33 4A teams in the state qualified to participate in the State Drill Team Competition. Uintah High School’s drill team qualified for State by taking second at the Region 8 Drill competition last month.

The State Meet included three categories: Military, Dance and High Kick. Bountiful High School placed first in all three categories, and swept the competition with first overall. Uintah placed 7th in each category, and ranked 8th overall.

“They did their best and the girls did great! It is fun to be challenged in a more advanced competition. We have learned a lot this year and it will help us to be better prepared for future years,” said coach Whitney Hacking.

“The girl’s should be proud of themselves. They performed very well and they stuck together as a team. The competition level in 4A is extremely high compared to 3A where Uintah has dominated the past several years. They were recognized for making it to State for their first year in 4A,” said coach Mickenzie Gates.

The State Competition finishes the U’ettes competitive season. They will continue to perform for various winter athletic events, and they look forward to their year end review tentatively scheduled for the end of February, 2010, at the Uintah High School gymnasium.
