Utes slip on tough ice
The Uintah Utes Hockey team had a tough time in the scoring department last weekend when they took on Park City at the Western Park Ice Arena in Vernal, with the Utes losing 0-1. It was a tough, even match as the game went scoreless on both nets through two and three quarter periods. Utes Goalie Chris Miller held his own and denied five shots in the first period of play, staying even with Park City’s goal keeper. It seemed as though the game would be determined by the goalies. Miller had eight shots in the second period to the Utes five shots. The Utes spent 12 minutes in penalty time giving Park City an advantage, but still no one scored. The third period started with no score for either side, when at 6:23 left in the third period Park City shot a goal that was denied only to rebound and glance off of a Ute stick to score a goal for Park City. The Utes being down a point worked at keeping the puck in the Park City territory with several shots on net, only to be denied. The game ended 0 to 1 Park City. This is the Utes second loss in five games. The Utes JV came out and defeated Park City’s JV with the score of 5-1 for Uintah. Park City scored first at 6:58 in the first period, but at 3:57 left in the 1st period Ute Freshman Denim Simper scored a goal unassisted which started the Utes on a scoring frenzie, with subsequent goals coming in from Beau Polya (with an assist form Denim Simper), Chad Whitmire (with an assist from Kolsen (KoKo)Bruch), and two unassisted goals for Brenten Stewart.
